What is the Benty Sport Report for Lanzarote?

An automated daily forecast of wind, waves, tide and weather across Lanzarote (Costa Teguise, Famara and the rest of the island) built to help you decide what sport to do tomorrow. It combines NOAA's GFS model with Open-Meteo's global marine model and refreshes every 15 minutes.

Why is the forecast for tomorrow and not today?

Accepted Answer

Most of our sport experiences (windsurf, surf, wing foil, freediving, skydive, golf) need at least 24 h to book gear and instructors. Showing tomorrow lets you plan and secure your spot in time.

Where does the wind, wave and tide data come from?

Accepted Answer

All data comes from Open-Meteo, which integrates NOAA's atmospheric GFS model and the global marine model. Wind is measured at Costa Teguise (windsurf / wing foil), waves at Famara (surf) and sea level as tide reference.

What are the ideal conditions for windsurfing in Costa Teguise?

15–25 knots of steady wind is the sweet spot. 10–15 kn is a good beginner session; above 30 kn is only for advanced riders with a small sail. Costa Teguise works year-round thanks to the north-east trade winds.

When are there good waves for surfing in Famara?

Accepted Answer

Famara works with mid to high tide. The ideal significant wave height for lessons and free surfing is 0.8–2.5 m. Above 2.5 m is intermediate/advanced territory. Best season: October to April with north-west swell.

What sports can I do when there's no wind or waves?

Accepted Answer

On flat, calm days we recommend hiking (Risco de Famara, Timanfaya, Volcán Corona), eBike routes (La Geria, volcanic north), golf in Puerto del Carmen, freediving in Puerto del Carmen or eSurf in Marina Rubicón. All benefit from light wind.

Can you skydive from Lanzarote?

Tandem skydiving departs from Gran Canaria (50-minute flight from Lanzarote). The Sport Report shows whether wind and cloud will allow jumps tomorrow. With wind under 25 kn and no rain the jump is confirmed.

How do I read the labels IDEAL TOMORROW, GOOD DAY, POSSIBLE?

Accepted Answer

IDEAL TOMORROW = optimal conditions for that sport. GOOD DAY = solid conditions, great for beginners or mellow sessions. POSSIBLE = doable with limitations (strong wind, small swell, etc.). ANOTHER DAY = better pick a different sport tomorrow.

What is the tide and why does it matter?

Accepted Answer

The tide is sea level relative to the mean. Lanzarote has two high and two low tides per day (about every 6 h). High tide makes water entries easier and covers rocks; low tide exposes reef and can hinder surf or freediving at some spots.

What is the best time of year for sport in Lanzarote?

Accepted Answer

Lanzarote is a year-round destination with an average of 22 °C. Windsurf and wing foil: May–September (strong trades). Surf in Famara: October–April. Hiking, eBike and golf: winter (Nov–Mar) for milder temperatures. Freediving: summer for best visibility.

Does the Sport Report also cover La Graciosa or Fuerteventura?

No, right now the Sport Report only covers Lanzarote and its associated experiences (including skydiving in Gran Canaria). We are evaluating extending it to La Graciosa and Fuerteventura in future releases.
