Frequently asked questions
- What is wing foil and how does it differ from windsurfing?
- Wing foiling combines a small handheld wing that you hold with both hands and a board equipped with a hydrofoil. Unlike windsurfing, the sail isn't attached to the board, and thanks to the foil, the board rises about 40-70 cm above the water, giving a silent, frictionless flying sensation. It's more versatile in light winds, easier to transport, and one of the fastest-growing water sports worldwide.
- Where exactly are the wing foil lessons in Lanzarote?
- In Costa Teguise, in Las Cucharas bay and adjacent areas. It's one of Europe's most consistent thermal wind spots, protected by the island's geography, with turquoise water and a mixed sand and soft rock bottom. We launch from our beachfront center, a 2-minute walk from the main hotels.
- Do I need prior experience to start?
- No. The first sessions are designed for absolute beginners. You'll first learn to handle the wing on land (positions, turns, power), then the board without a foil to gain balance and coordination, and when your level allows, you'll be lifting on the foil. If you have prior windsurfing, kite, or SUP experience, progress will be much faster.
- How many lessons do I need to fly on the foil?
- With private lessons, most students achieve their first short flights on the foil in 3-5 two-hour sessions. To ride long stretches, tack, and go in both directions autonomously, 8-12 sessions are recommended. In a group, the pace is a bit slower but much more economical.
- How much does a wing foil class in Lanzarote cost?
- Private lessons start at €185 for the first 2-hour session, with a 2-session pack for €350 and additional sessions at €170. Group coaching (max. 3 students) costs €125 per person for the first session, €229 per person for the 2-session pack, and €111 per person for each additional session. Full equipment and wetsuit included.
- What is the best time of year for wing foil in Lanzarote?
- Lanzarote has consistent trade winds almost all year round. From May to September, the thermal wind is more stable and stronger (15-25 knots, ideal for foiling), with water temperatures at 22-23 °C. From October to April, there are excellent days with mild temperatures (18-22 °C water, 20-24 °C air) and fewer people on the water.
- What age and physical condition are required?
- We recommend ages 12-14 and up, with a minimum approximate weight of 40 kg to safely handle the wing. No special physical condition is required, but you should be able to swim confidently. Wing foiling is less physically demanding than windsurfing because the foil eliminates water resistance.
- What equipment do you use in the lessons?
- We work with premium equipment from leading brands (Duotone, F-One, Naish, North). Wings of various sizes (3-6 m²) depending on wind and weight, large and stable boards for learning (110-160 L), foils with large front wings to lift at low speeds. Wetsuits are 3/2 or 4/3 mm depending on the season. All equipment is renewed every season.
- What's included in the price?
- Full equipment (board, foil, wing, leash, helmet, and impact vest), wetsuit appropriate for the season, certified professional instructor, technical briefing on land, on-water support from a Zodiac or shore, civil liability insurance, and equipment insurance.
- What happens if there's no wind on the day of my lesson?
- Safety and quality come first. If there's not enough wind (minimum 12 knots) or too much wind (over 30 knots for beginners), we'll reschedule the session at no cost on the same day or another day that suits you, or we'll issue a full refund. Cancellations are rare: our instructors know the spot and can take advantage of short wind windows.
- Can I bring my own equipment?
- Yes. If you have your own equipment (wing, board, foil), we apply a discount on the lesson. We also offer stand-alone equipment rental by the hour or day for independent riders who only need the gear.
- Can I combine wing foiling with other sports during the same stay?
- Yes, many clients combine wing foiling in Costa Teguise with windsurfing at the same spot (same wind, different sensations), surfing in Famara on swell days, hiking the Risco de Famara, or freediving in Puerto del Carmen. We can organize a personalized multi-activity package for you.
- How do I get to Costa Teguise from my accommodation?
- Costa Teguise is a 10-minute drive from Arrecife, 25 minutes from Puerto del Carmen, and 45 minutes from Playa Blanca. There's free parking next to the beach and a regular bus line from Arrecife. Many clients stay in Costa Teguise hotels and walk over in 2-5 minutes.
- Can I gift a wing foil lesson (gift voucher)?
- Yes. We issue digital gift vouchers valid for 12 months. Perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, or Christmas. Message us on WhatsApp with the recipient's name, and we'll send you a personalized PDF ready to give.
- What payment methods do you accept?
- We accept card payments (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), Apple Pay, Google Pay, Bizum, Klarna (interest-free deferred payment), and bank transfer. Secure online booking via Stripe: immediate confirmation by email.
