An experience to experience the sea and the coast of Lanzarote actively and sportily.

Why Lanzarote

Lanzarote is one of Europe's best destinations to learn and enjoy surfing, and Famara is its undisputed gem. An open beach of over six kilometers, protected by the imposing Risco de Famara, where the Atlantic arrives clean almost all year round.

The sandy bottom makes the waves break gently and predictably, ideal for beginners. At the same time, big swell days offer powerful peaks for intermediate and advanced surfers looking for long, fast walls. The northern microclimate, with less wind in the morning and mild temperatures from October to May, makes every session a memorable experience.

When to go

Lanzarote's main surf season runs from October to April, when North Atlantic storms generate the most consistent swells and waves reach their best size and quality. It's the preferred time for intermediate and advanced surfers.

From May to September, waves are smaller and gentler, making this period ideal for beginners, gaining confidence in the water, and enjoying with family. The sea temperature is around 19–23 °C all year round, so you'll only need a thin wetsuit.

What to bring

  • Bañador o licra de baño
  • Toalla y chanclas
  • Crema solar resistente al agua (factor alto)
  • Agua y algo ligero para reponer fuerzas
  • Gafas de sol y gorra para después de la sesión

Frequently asked questions

Where exactly are the surf lessons in Lanzarote?
On Famara beach (Caleta de Famara), on the north coast of Lanzarote. It's an open beach, over 6 km long, protected by the imposing Famara Cliff, with a sandy bottom and gentle, predictable waves. It's considered the best beach for learning to surf in the Canary Islands.
Do I need prior experience to sign up?
No. We have specific sessions for beginners who have never touched a board, classes for intermediates who can paddle into waves and ride them, and advanced sessions (Gold) for experienced surfers who want to perfect turns, bigger wave take-offs, or barrel rides.
What is the minimum age for children to surf?
We recommend ages 8 and up. For minors, we use large, stable softboards, choose the section of the beach with smaller and gentler whitewash, and instructors are always in the water accompanying each child. Parents can watch the session from the shore.
What does a VIP surf lesson in Famara include?
A suitable board for your level (softboard, funboard, or shortboard), full wetsuit, certified instructor (maximum 4-5 students per group), liability insurance, access to showers and restrooms, and VIP reception with water, fruit, and coffee before getting in the water. Intermediate and Gold sessions also include video recording and technical feedback.
How long does a surf lesson last?
The full session lasts about 2 hours: about 15-20 minutes of warm-up and theory on the sand, approximately 1 hour 30 minutes of actual time in the water, and a few final minutes for feedback and stretching. The Gold pack includes a second session on the same or next day.
What is the best time of year to surf in Lanzarote?
The main season runs from October to April, when North Atlantic low-pressure systems generate consistent swells and waves reach their best size. This is the preferred time for intermediate and advanced surfers. From May to September, conditions are smaller and mellower, ideal for beginners, families, and anyone who wants to learn without pressure.
What is the water temperature in Famara?
The water temperature is around 18-19 °C in winter and 22-23 °C in summer. We always wear full wetsuits (3/2 mm in summer, 4/3 mm in winter), included in the class, so you'll be comfortable all year round.
How many lessons do I need to stand up on a wave?
Most students manage to stand up on whitewash in their first class. To paddle out independently, choose waves, and catch green (unbroken) waves, 5 to 10 sessions are recommended. The 3-class Beginner Pack is the ideal starting point for a solid foundation.
Can I bring my own board or wetsuit?
Yes. If you have your own equipment, we apply a small discount on the class fee. We also offer individual board and wetsuit rental if you want to surf independently after class.
What happens if there aren't good conditions on the day of my class?
Safety comes first. If the ocean conditions aren't suitable (strong offshore wind, very choppy sea, or swell too big for your level), we'll reschedule the session free of charge for the same day or another day that suits you, or we'll give you a full refund.
Can I combine surfing with other sports during the same stay?
Yes, it's one of the most requested combinations. Many clients combine surfing in Famara with windsurfing or wing-foiling in Costa Teguise (afternoon thermal wind), hiking along the Famara Cliff and Chinijo Archipelago Natural Park, or eFoil in Marina Rubicón as a relaxed day out.
Can I record my session on video?
Yes. The VIP intermediate and Gold sessions include recording from the shore and subsequent technical feedback. For any session, you can add a photo and video package as an extra: you'll receive the material within 24-48 hours via WeTransfer or Google Drive.
How do I get to Famara from my accommodation?
Famara is about a 25-minute drive from Arrecife, 20 minutes from Costa Teguise, 30 minutes from Puerto del Carmen, and 35-40 minutes from Playa Blanca. There's free sand parking next to the beach. There's no direct public bus connection, so we recommend a rental car or taxi.
Can I give a surf lesson as a gift (gift voucher)?
Yes. We issue digital gift vouchers valid for 12 months. Perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, or Christmas. Message us on WhatsApp with the recipient's name, and we'll send you a personalized PDF ready to give.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept card payments (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), Apple Pay, Google Pay, Bizum, Klarna (interest-free deferred payment), and bank transfer. Secure online booking via Stripe: immediate confirmation by email.
