Frequently asked questions
- Where can you go windsurfing in Lanzarote?
- The main spot is Costa Teguise, specifically Las Cucharas Beach, considered one of the best beginner bays in all of Europe. The inner bay has flat or slightly choppy water — perfect for learning — and the outer area, beyond the reef, offers waves and clean wind for advanced levels. Our school is beachfront in Las Cucharas.
- Do I need previous experience to sign up for a windsurf lesson?
- No. The Beginner session is designed for people who have never been on a board. We start on land explaining basic theory (equipment parts, wind, position) and in a few minutes you'll be sailing in shallow waters with equipment adapted to your weight and level.
- How much does a windsurf lesson in Costa Teguise cost?
- A 1.5-hour Beginner session costs €60 per person and includes board, sail, wetsuit, certified instructor, and insurance. 3 and 5-day packages are significantly more cost-effective per session. Equipment rental for independent sailors starts at around €50 per day.
- What is the best time of year for windsurfing in Lanzarote?
- All year round. May to September is high season with constant northeast trade winds (18–25 knots almost every day) and water at 20–22 °C — this is when PWA World Tour professionals train. October to April has more variable conditions but is equally valid for beginners, with fewer crowds and water at 18–20 °C (4/3 mm wetsuit).
- From what age can children windsurf?
- We recommend ages 8–10 and up, provided the child can swim confidently. The first lessons are held in the shallow waters of the inner bay of Las Cucharas, with stable boards (Bic Techno or similar) and sails of 1.5–3.0 m² adapted to weight. With teenagers 12+ years old, progress is usually very fast.
- What does the class price include?
- Board, sail, wetsuit, helmet (optional), certified instructor with a small ratio, Third-Party Liability insurance, and equipment insurance. You only need to bring a swimsuit, towel, reef-safe sunscreen, and water. Showers and changing rooms are available on the beach.
- What level do I need to sail in the outer zone of Las Cucharas?
- You need a consolidated waterstart, control of the rig in gusty wind, and previous experience in waves. If you don't have that level, the inner bay area is huge, very safe, and allows for planing and first maneuvers without exposing yourself to the large waves outside.
- How many lessons do I need to learn to sail independently?
- With a 1.5-hour beginner lesson, you'll already be sailing upwind and jibing in light winds. To consolidate skills (waterstart, planing with harness, fast tacks), 3–5 sessions are typical. Our 5-day package is the most cost-effective and best ensures the leap to independent sailing.
- Can I bring my own windsurfing equipment to Lanzarote?
- Yes, but most visitors prefer to rent: the school has storage on the beach, a complete fleet renewed every season (freeride, freestyle, wave, foil), and you won't pay excess baggage on the plane or risk damage. If you still bring your own equipment, check with your airline for sports baggage fees.
- What happens if there's no wind on the day of my lesson?
- If conditions do not allow the class due to lack or excess of wind, we reschedule at no cost to another day during your stay or refund 100% of the amount. The decision is always made by the instructor based on safety criteria — we never go out in inadequate conditions.
- Are there windsurf competitions in Costa Teguise?
- Yes. Costa Teguise hosts PWA World Tour events (professional world circuit) every year, as well as national championships and local regattas. If your trip coincides with a competition date, it's definitely worth booking a day to see it live — the level is spectacular.
- Can you combine windsurfing with surfing, wing foil, or other activities?
- Yes, that's what many people do. You can windsurf or wing foil in the morning in Costa Teguise (cleaner wind) and surf in the afternoon in Famara (20 min by car) when the thermal breeze drops. Many guests also combine with hiking, e-biking, or padel on rest days.
- How do I get to the school and where can I park?
- We are beachfront in Las Cucharas (Costa Teguise), 12 km from Arrecife (15 min by car), 10 min from LZ airport, and a 5 min walk from most hotels and apartments in the area. There is free parking next to the beach. Bus line 1 from Arrecife runs frequently.
- Can I gift a windsurfing lesson (gift voucher)?
- Yes. You can book any session as a gift — we'll send you a personalized digital voucher valid for 12 months. The recipient chooses the date directly with us based on availability. Ideal for birthdays, anniversaries, or Christmas.
- What payment methods do you accept?
- We accept card payments (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), Apple Pay, Google Pay, Bizum, Revolut Pay, Amazon Pay, and Klarna (pay in 3 interest-free installments). All payments are processed 100% securely via Stripe.
